“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication” ~ Leonardo da Vinci
The Short Version
My name is Vlad Rapoport. My story is not that different from the rest of the stories that grace personal development blogs. The subjects that I ponder upon on the pages of Simpler Life Today are not that new. They are not unique to me. I don’t claim to be an authority on them. I simply attempt to give my perspective, together with a touch of inspiration.
More so, everything that I write or touch upon, you already posses in you. It’s just that I had some extra time to ponder it. The answers are already within you as well, and your answers are perfectly suited for who you are.
Simpler Life Today, is not mine – it’s ours. It’s a personal development community that shares a vision of a simpler, more spiritual life. I welcome your input. Feel free to tell your story, so we can learn and evolve together.
My hat goes off to you on your journey of self discovery, for stretching out and reaching beyond yourself. I’ll see you on the other side.
The Long Version
“When life isn’t worth living, start making other plans” ~ Unknown
I am the founder and editor of Simpler Life Today. My story begins at the time when I felt that my life was not worth living. I despised my job. The economy was horrible and the real estate market fell. I was living in an over-mortgaged house. I lived to pay the bills, and paid the bills so I could live. I was trapped and felt that nothing was ever going to change.
One summer, I was able to find enough time, for my family and I to take a short vacation to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. During the trip, I found significance in my life. As we drove hours up the coast to Sayulita, a small fishing village, my heart raced forward refusing to look back. I was seeking out a new life, one that I knew I must fulfill. When I was a young child, I made a promise to myself, to refuse to succumb to mediocrity, to find my destiny and the reason why I was placed here on earth.
No! I refused to believe that this is all there is to life! We drove through a lush jungle, many miles away from home and worlds apart from the life that I had been living. I knew that going back was not an option. Over time, I already had some idea of what I wanted from life. There were glimpses of answers always floating around in my mind. It seemed impossible to put it all together at the time. But now I needed the answer.
When the time is right, the universe reveals a solution to any problem. After unsuccessfully struggling to find the answer, I finally gave into surrender, allowing my mind to be silent. The answer quietly appeared in my consciousness. The message was perfectly clear to me, in its simplicity, “Do what matters most.”
Today I live a very different life. Changes that I chose to make, required discipline and sacrifice, but the outcome is completely worth it. I learned to separate what is truly important from all of the noise in life. And believe me, there is plenty of noise. Specifically the illusion of success, status, money and the way that we see ourselves. The question applied to all things in life is simple – does this really matter, and why? And if you do some soul searching and are honest with your answers, you will be surprised at the outcome.
My goal with Simpler Life Today is to address the key topics that are common to every one’s lives. They are simplicity, spirituality and health. Within each topic, I explore various concepts based on research and personal experience that help to simplify, minimize, heal and inspire. These concepts helped me to achieve a simpler, more meaningful life. I hope these principles help to guide you to what is most significant to you.
Live well. Vlad
