I’ve already addressed the subjects of anxiety and depression on this site. It would be unfair not to include the topic of panic attacks here as well. What do depression, anxiety and panic attacks have in common, and what do they have to do with living a simpler life you ask? Well, they all have a lot to do with the quality of your life in general, just like any other health issue. Part of living a simpler life, is to minimize personal distractions. With better health we can focus our attention on what matters the most. And that’s the main point.
Consider this, over 20 million adults in the US suffer from various mood disorders. Panic attacks occur as a result of an onset of sudden fear or apprehension. The attacks start suddenly and peak within 10 to 15 minutes. After the peak, they decline in approximately two hours. Many people who experience a panic attack for the first time, believe that they are having a heart attack or a nervous breakdown.
This is understandable considering that the body thinks that it is in severe danger and it must defend itself. The body goes into a fight or flight mode, as it prepares to defend itself. The heart pumps, the blood rushes away from the brain and into vital organs. The symptoms are very similar to an anxiety attack, and sometimes, the terms are used interchangeably.
Methods of Dealing With Panic Attacks
Panic attacks can be triggered by various factors depending on the individual. Common causes are heredity, fears, a passive lifestyle with lack of assertiveness, medication, alcohol and/or drug withdrawal and serious illness. Modern medicine treats most panic attacks and panic disorders through prescription medication. Why? Because pharmaceutical companies make a fortune from the insurance companies, and they push the sale and application of their products constantly.
The problem with the prescription drugs is that they can carry many negative side effects. This is why I propagate a holistic approach when dealing with panic attacks naturally. In my experience, no single treatment had worked as well as a holistic approach that is combined of many methods used collectively. This is the method which I personally used as an anxiety and panic attacks cure. Here is an outline of a complete holistic method for the treatment of panic attacks.
How to Stop a Panic Attack Naturally – a Holistic Approach
Eastern philosophies gave us meditation and yoga. In fact yoga was developed so that one could meditate longer by performing yogic asanas (poses) between meditation sessions. It has been recently discovered that both meditation and yoga stimulate a healthy shift in activity in the brain. This results in the reduction of the Beta waves which relate to the stress and the thinking side of the brain. At the same time stimulating the Alpha, Theta and Gamma waves.
This creates a sensation of peace and happiness. This feeling remains and actually grows stronger with regular practice. It lingers even if you skip a few sessions. For more information I recommend looking into Zen, Japa or Vipassana styles of meditation as ways to stop a panic attack and an effective way how to cure panic attacks permanently.
It’s no wonder that the ancient cultures used natural remedies to treat many different ailments. Nature provides us with many natural healing substances if you know where to look. Today, we don’t have to walk the forests looking for these remedies. Moder science has embraced the natural supplements. Now they are safer, more potent and support all major body systems.
Emotional health is no exception. There is a number of companies that manufacture high quality supplements that cure panic attacks naturally and without any negative side effects. These supplements work by restoring a balance of chemicals such as Serotonin and Dopamine in the brain. This makes for a great alternative to prescription medication.
Let’s face it, we can all eat healthier. I am not talking about a strict diet, although that’s definitely an option. I am referring to cutting down on the junk food, on the sodas, etc. I am also talking about the quantity. Generally speaking, we as Americans overeat. It’s not entirely our fault. Thanks to the booming food industry, the TV commercials and the all you can eat restaurants, we are constantly bombarded with the sites and smells of food!
The prudent approach is to limit the amount of exposure that you have to food. Stay away from the food courts at a mall and out of the fast food establishments. Suggest the same to your family too. Develop a food plan where you get enough of the good stuff! Your body will feel better, you may loose some weight and have better cholesterol and blood pressure. When you are physically healthier, you will feel better, no matter what.
I’m sure this one is not new to you. And the concept of a healthy lifestyle would not be complete without the mention of physical activity. You noticed that I did not say exercise. Of course there is nothing wrong with exercise and I am all for it. But, I don’t want you to associate that word with running a marathon or spending your life at a gym.
Staying active is just that, it’s walking to the corner store instead of driving. It’s doing some gardening in your back yard. It’s walking your dog down the street instead of having him do his business on your front lawn. When you get a feel for being active, you can build on it to go a bit faster, a bit farther, a bit more often. That’s right, one leg at a time. And who knows, one day soon you might walk all the way to the gym!
Get Your Rest
Usually, there isn’t much that gets mentioned about getting enough rest. In today’s fast paced society, quality rest is often ignored in lieu of productivity. However, proper rest is essential for overall health and recuperation of the nervous system. Our bodies require a minimum of 8 hours of sleep at night. If you have a serious illness, that time should be increased.
The body repairs itself during sleep. That is why in order to gain full benefit from physical exercise, it is recommended to skip days from the gym and get plenty of rest. Don’t rely on caffeine or energy drinks to wake you up in the morning. If you need stimulants, you are not getting enough sleep. It’s OK to miss a TV show late at night, in order to feel refreshed the next morning. I highly recommend it!
Natural Cure for Panic Attacks Conclusion
So there you go. Use the above information collectively or independently to custom tailor your holistic therapy. If you feel that you are not making progress or that you’re getting worse, by all means see a physician to make sure that you don’t have a more serious condition. I wish you all of the success, and hope that you learn how to stop panic attacks naturally, once and for all.
Live well. Vlad
